Working Holiday Makers and the 6-month work limitation

Working holiday makers on subclass 462 and 417 visa are always subject to visa condition 8547 also known as the six month work limitation, restricting them to work for any one Australian employer for a maximum of six months while on their first or second 12 months working holiday visa.

In January 2022, the six month work limitation was temporarily relaxed initially in effect until 31 December 2022. The Australian Government has now extended the temporary relaxation until 30 June 2023.

In essence, if you are in Australia or planning to come to Australia as a working holiday maker on either 462 or 417 subclass of visa, or you are already in Australia on one of these visas, or you are in Australia on a bridging visa which has condition 8547 imposed on that bridging visa, then the 6-month work limitation would commence on 1 July 2023. Form that date onwards you may work for any employer for up to an additional 6 months even if you already worked for that same employer before prior to that date.
